Hollis
Gabriel
Growing up in New York, Hollis Gabriel had in-depth exposure to the classical arts during one of the most exciting periods of the NYC art scene. Twenty four years in New Orleans strengthened her love of the living arts: architecture, history, color, music, dance and food. Twenty years of teaching provided the opportunity to share the arts with students who didn’t have these experiences in their lives. She was trained to include the arts in the core curriculum. Theatre, visual arts, dance and music became an essential way to teach all subjects.
Three years after Katrina her family moved to Greensboro, where she became part of a growing art community. Using her father’s unique mobiles design Hollis created a small business making mobiles. Visual art became the center of her life as she settled into her new surroundings.
In 2015, after a devastating family tragedy, life shifted and she turned to painting. She looked to the process of creating colorful and joyful art to heal her broken heart. Hollis now finds herself in a mindful, calming place where her heart can continue to heal.
